We used to believe that happiness is what every human being is ultimately searching for.
It turns out that happiness is only part of the answer. What we actually seek is wellbeing.
thrive! will teach you straightforward exercises that have been rigorously tested and proven by some of the most eminent psychologists in the world, like Professor Martin Seligman PhD, the founder of positive psychology, and the author of Wellbeing Theory.
Wellbeing Theory develops and extends Authentic Happiness Theory; it looks at five factors, two new ones:
- relationships
having deep and fulfilling relationships
accomplishment
achievement, growth, mastery, getting goals
- positive emotion:
eg having more happiness and pleasure, less sadness and stress
engagement and flow:
doing things which absorb you so totally you lose yourself in them
meaning in your life
feeling like your life has a purpose which is bigger than you
thrive! also covers how to use Wellbeing Theory in two other aspects of life:
- children & wellbeing
strengths, gratitude, kindness, active-constructive responding
health
physical and mental, cure vs fixing symptoms
- based on contemporary university research
- improving wellbeing transforms business performance AND is a great thing to do for people
- affordable and outstanding value

the evidence for thrive! as a business investment
thrive! will reduce the performance impact of recent financial news by limiting its emotional impact. Negative emotion in humans destroys performance, influencing skills, drive and resilience. It weakens the immune system and combines with stress to increase sickness absence.
On the other hand wellbeing increases engagement, creativity, productivity, motivation and resilience. It boosts emotional proficiency and so benefits leadership, selling and teaming skills. Indeed people preferentially select work environments and supervisors that maximise positive emotions, derive greater job satisfaction from them, and stay there longer.
The new positive psychology interventions on which thrive! is based materially increase happiness, and wellbeing (Professor Martin Seligman "Authentic Happiness" 2002 and "Flourish" 2011).
Workplace performance and employee satisfaction are significantly improved by hope, optimism, confidence and resilience (Professors Fred Luthans & Bruce Alvolio et al, "Positive Psychological Capital", 2007).
Furthermore, interventions like thrive! that are based on addressing these positivity factors have been shown to have a high return on investment - up to eight times higher than traditional approaches (Spencer 2001).
